Evolt, one of Thailand’s largest EV charging solution providers, was established in 2017 with a mission to electrify Thailand. To offer robust charging solutions and reliable experiences to its customers, Evolt partnered with Virta. Thanks to Virta’s modular solutions and open APIs, Evolt can provide customised charging services that meet local needs.

Founded to electrify Thailand

Back in 2016, Poonpat Loharjun, Evolt’s CEO realised that e-mobility hadn’t yet made its boom in Thailand, and there were barely any EVs on Thai roads. That’s when he saw a tremendous opportunity to start building the foundation to help EV adoption in the country.

Over the years, Evolt has become one of the most experienced and trusted players in Thailand’s EV ecosystem. With a track record of 30,000 installed charging stations across the country (including home chargers and other private chargers Evolt helped install), the company acts as a complete EV charging solution provider, covering the whole EV charging value chain.

From governmental agencies and fleet operators to real estate developers and individual users, serving a wide range of customer segments ensures nationwide coverage.

First, Evolt acts as a Charge Point Operator (CPO), managing over 800 public chargers across Thailand and ensuring they offer a reliable and seamless experience for EV drivers.

In addition, they act as a solution provider for other CPOs, offering a complete package including hardware, software, installation, and maintenance services. Lately, with fleet electrification gaining traction in Thailand, Evolt has also offered EV fleet solutions to logistics operators and corporate and public sector fleets.

Need for a reliable partner that supports high growth

In 2017, Evolt was starting out but already knew they wanted to build a strong business with a reliable product. That’s when they set out to find a trusted partner who would support their plan to become one of Thailand’s leading EV charging networks. For that, they needed a platform that was reliable, scalable and offered the option to provide EV charging under its own branding.

After considering multiple providers, Virta was the best option. Partnering with Virta gave Evolt a solid foundation to start building out its wide network.

“Virta was one of the few providers that could offer the complete solution – CPO operations, charger management, CRM tools, maintenance services and reporting tools. Virta allows us to keep our network reliable and scalable, which is critical as we grow,” explains Poonpat Loharjun, CEO of Evolt.

Another key feature Evolt appreciates is energy management.

“That was a big differentiator for us. We have integrated congestion management with the Electrical Authority of Thailand. So, we’re not only staying compliant with local regulations but also maintaining a competitive edge over all the other players in the market,” adds Poonpat.

In the early days, it took some time for Evolt to identify a clear path forward, but once they did, they managed to raise funding, bring in strategic partners, and rapidly expand their network by securing property partnerships and deploying chargers in strategic high-traffic locations.

“Virta helps us offer localised and seamless experience to our users, scale up our CPO operations and offer system reliability, which is crucial for customer confidence and long-term partnerships. Virta’s energy management helps us comply with the local grid and regulations and optimise the energy used across our charging sites,” sums up Poonpat.

Flexible solutions to adapt to local market needs

Over the last few years, e-mobility has started gaining popularity across Thailand, and the local market has thus become highly competitive. Evolt needed to adapt its offering to fit the evolving needs of both Charge Point Operators and EV drivers.

This is where Virta’s Modular Solutions came into play.

“We now have the flexibility to develop our own features and tailor the user experience even better while still relying on the core reliability and scalability of the Virta platform. It is the best of both worlds, solid, proven back-end with the possibility of customisation,” says Poonpat.

Virta’s Modular Solutions allow customers like Evolt to decide which parts of their EV charging business they want to run themselves and which they want to outsource. This gives them flexibility and the possibility to customise parts of their service to better suit their specific needs.

Supporting customisation efforts with APIs

APIs play an increasingly important role in the eMobility ecosystem. With Virta APIs, customers can integrate their systems with the Virta platform, simplifying their operations and allowing for broader customisation of their services.

“We are developing our own EMSP platform, which is integrated with Virta APIs. This allows our mobile app server to utilise real-time core functionalities fully and gives us the flexibility to develop country-specific features that meet local market needs. We have very good support from Virta’s team to develop the features and the product to fit our local market.”

Data tracking to keep improvement ongoing

Evolt tracks its performance from two angles. Regarding its CPO operations, it looks at network performance and operational reliability. The charger uptime directly reflects Evolt’s reliability and translates into monetary gains.

On the EMSP side, Evolt looks at the customer journey, mobile app engagement and overall customer satisfaction.

Gathering data about charger performance and EV drivers enables Evolt to continuously improve its services, the reliability of the network, and the customer experience.

Fleet electrification is the future

With the fleet electrification growing in Thailand, Evolt’s plans are clear.

‘We will focus on expanding our solution to support the growing demand from EV fleets in Thailand. Fleet electrification is accelerating, and it comes with very specific requirements quite different from public charging stations,” explains Poonpat.

The possibility of scheduling a charger for a specific time, optimising energy usage, and easily integrating with telematics systems are just a few specificities of EV fleet needs. Thanks to Virta’s Fleet solution, Evolt can ensure they have all the necessary platform capabilities in place to serve this sector the best they can.

“This is what we need to make our offering competitive over the next 12 months. With Virta, we’ve always shared the same goal: to deliver the best possible customer experience, and we believe we’re on the right path together,” concludes Poonpat.
