The 5,000 m² hub on the Maasvlakte features, at the first phase, 30 × 400 kW Kempower DC charging points and AC Powerlock fast-charging points up to 250 kW. Operated 24/7 on Virta EV charging and energy platform, the site serves all electric trucks with a reservation‑based model and flexible tariffs—marking a major step toward reliable zero‑emission logistics and construction in and from the Port of Rotterdam.

Dutch company WattHub today announced the official opening of its new public high‑power charging hub for heavy‑duty vehicles on the Port of Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte, delivered in collaboration with technology partners Virta and Kempower. The first of its kind on the Maasvlakte, the site is the Netherlands’ largest public heavy‑duty fast‑charging location by number of 400 kW DC charging points, expanding reliable capacity where logistics demand is highest. The site offers 24/7 availability and drive‑through access.

“We see the Maasvlakte site as a major enabler for zero‑emission logistics and construction. It supports port drayage, urban logistics and nearby zero‑emission worksites, helping fleets comply with zero‑emission city‑logistics zones rolling out from 1 January 2025,” said Gerben van den Berg, CEO of WattHub

“In addition to market‑leading energy‑management capabilities and a focus on fleet charging requirements, Virta provides a best‑in‑class user experience, including access to local support and expertise,” Mr. Van den Berg added.

“This flagship project pairs Dutch vision for accelerating heavy‑duty electrification with trailblazing Finnish charging and energy‑management know‑how. We believe it will play an important role in helping heavy‑duty fleets operating in and out of the Port of Rotterdam take the step to electrify their trucks,” said Anne Bood, Sales Director, Virta Benelux and UK.
