Virta Q3 2026 Product Release Highlights
The days are getting shorter, but the product updates are not. Q3 2026 was about putting energy to work for charging businesses: on site, on the grid and on the road.
This quarter, Virta focused on one thing: helping customers get more from their energy and their charging network. That means a new revenue stream with grid flexibility, more value from on-site renewables with Virta Boost and wider fast-charging access for Northe fleet drivers.
This update brings together the key highlights from Q3 2026. It covers what has been delivered and how each update helps charging station operators and fleets run more efficient, reliable and profitable charging businesses.
Product Release Highlights: What’s new?
In Q3 2026, Virta introduced and improved solutions across energy management, grid flexibility, fleet charging, Virta Hub and roaming.
These updates are designed to lower energy costs, unlock new revenue, simplify daily operations and prepare businesses for upcoming regulatory requirements.
Virta Boost: charge EVs with on-site renewable energy
Virta Boost sends surplus power from on-site solar, wind, battery or hydro straight to the chargers. Instead of exporting it at low feed-in prices, operators sell it as charging. When production drops or building demand rises, charging power scales back automatically. The grid connection stays protected either way.
Virta Boost extends Virta Adaptive Load Management (ALM). It works with a dedicated production meter for the most precise allocation of surplus, or with the standard ALM grid meter in a lighter-weight mode. Combined with tariff management, operators can also lower charging prices when renewable output peaks.
Earn more from every kilowatt produced. Already running Virta ALM? Ask Virta to switch it on. Setup details are in the Virta Boost support article.
Tesla Superchargers now available with Northe
Northe is Virta's charging platform for company fleets. Its drivers can now use more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers at over 1,500 locations in 12 European markets. Access is open to drivers of all supported EV brands using Northe, not only Tesla owners. Access, payments and billing stay on one Northe platform.
More fast-charging options for Northe fleet drivers, with simpler operations for fleet managers.
Get paid for helping balance the grid
Electricity markets pay for charging capacity that can adjust when the grid needs it. With grid flexibility, Virta trades this capacity on behalf of charge point operators. It works on any CPMS, across AC and DC, with no extra hardware. Grid flexibility has now rolled out to France and the UK.
Single networks are too small to access these markets alone, so Virta pools capacity across operators. Power is only reduced during system stress or extreme price volatility, and the impact on the charging experience is agreed with each operator. Modulo, a French Virta customer with around 1,600 charging points, is among the first operators to join in France.
A new revenue stream from the existing network. Grid flexibility is available in Finland, Sweden, France and the UK.
Event Spotlight: “Flexibility is a trust issue”: Virta at ICNC26 in Berlin
In September, Eemil Rauma, Head of Government Relations and Advocacy at Virta, joined a panel on clean energy and smart grids at ICNC26 at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. His message: good flexibility is invisible to drivers. In Finland, public chargers have supported the grid for over three years without drivers noticing.
Station list and map, side by side
In Virta Hub, the station list and the map now sit side by side on one page. Select a station in one and find it in the other. The map follows the same filters and search as the list, and the divider between both views can be resized.
Find stations faster. Plan maintenance and firmware updates by location, without switching pages.
Good to know: which payment methods support scheduled tariffs?
Scheduled tariffs (formerly alternate tariffs) let operators price charging by time of day. They work with web and app one-time payments (OTP) and in-app payments. Payment terminals always apply the default tariff because of current hardware limitations. Virta is working with charging station and payment terminal manufacturers to change this.
OCPI 2.3.0 is live
Virta now supports OCPI 2.3.0, the latest roaming protocol version and the first built specifically to meet the requirements of the EU’s AFIR. The first partner connections on OCPI 2.3.0 are already running, and Virta now sends enriched location data to selected National Access Points.
In future releases, drivers will see more granular prices with taxes included, plus details such as parking and supported vehicle types. They will also find MCS and Plug & Charge chargers more easily and be able to book chargers in advance.
Ready before you need to be. This year, Virta has worked to be among the first to adopt new roaming standards, so customers can meet new requirements and make their stations easier for roaming drivers to find, trust and choose.
Energy for the season ahead
Q3 2026 had one focus: helping customers get more from their energy and their network. A new revenue stream with grid flexibility. More value from on-site renewables with Virta Boost. Wider fast-charging access for Northe drivers.
In Q4, Virta will enable enhanced roaming capabilities and take OCPI 2.3.0 into production. The days may be getting shorter, but there is plenty more to come.
